San Damiano Retreat and Shrine of the Good Shepherd, located in the heart of Southern Illinois' Shawnee National Forest, is the perfect refuge from the pressure and stress of every day life. Be inspired by this place of peace, relaxation, and spiritual renewal in the many meditation and prayer gardens or peaceful trails.

San Damiano is the home of Christ the Good Shepherd Shrine. Designed and created by the world renowned St. Louis, Missouri artist Mr. Robert Cassily, the bronze statue measures 35 feet in height and is the largest of its kind within the United States. The statue depicts Christ cradling a struggling lamb within His arms. The message of the statue is clear, though we face many challenges and struggles within our lives, Christ is always there to comfort and reassure us.

The 200 acres perched on top of a 225 foot bluff offers a birds-eye-view of the Ohio River and Western Kentucky. Accommodations are available for your group in cottages with individual balconies overlooking the Ohio River. The shrine welcomes your retreat, seminar, or workshop in the conference center.
